My boyfriend and I are college students. We still both live with our parents. But his parents have not cut the umbilical cord yet. They treat like him a child and he is 19 years old! Perhaps they treat him like a child becuase he collects these old toys. But nevertheless, his parents do not give him any privacy. He cannot close his door (except when changing).
What bothers him the most is when he hides things (like love notes from me,and such)...he hides them in a really good place....a place that the parents cant just stumble upon. The parents had to be snooping in order to find the objects.
His parents found the promise ring he's going to give me for our anniversary and they flipped their lid. And now they're being even more anal. I pity him so much.
I cannot understand his situation completely becuase my parents give me privacy. My boyfriend was telling me he envies how his best friend can shut and lock his door...he said doing that (in his home) would be like asking to get kicked out...=(
How can I comfort him and help him?
I listen and everything but it feels like I can do so much more to help him...I love him so much, and I want to help...I just don't know what to do.
Please help if you can! =)
Thank you for taking time out to read this =)
Thanks <3, L

Well, his parents are definitely being excessive here... but do they have reason to not trust him? Has he been in trouble before, or has he broken their trust in the past?
Bottome line is this: While he is still living under his parent's house, he must obey the rules.
Why doesn't he just move out? He could get a place with a couple of roommates, or move into a dorm.
Your boyfriend can also have a big talk with his parents about receiving more privacy -- but again, I don't know if he has earned that trust from his parents.
