To me, if two people truly love each other than age truly shouldn't matter. I know I may be getting a little bit ahead of myself, but I am somewhat friends with this man that is 24 years older than I am.
It is not the age for me that matters, but I am finding it very difficult to tell this to my friends - especially my male friends. I know the initial reason I am attracted to him is because he is a very intelligent, mature man - I am a woman who is all about the brains and maturity over the 'looks,' though I find this man very attractive.
My friends keep telling me to stop acting so desperate because I am a very gorgeous person. I don't have a low self-esteem; I just am falling in love with a beautiful soul. For some reason my friends cannot compensate this, and while the jokes they make are simply hilarious I, at the very least, want them to support me while they poke fun.
I know it is not for certain how far this guy and I will go, but I know he won't be the last. I have always been attracted to older guys - sometimes a couple of years older to now 24. And while I know it shouldn't matter what my friends think of the guy - I at least want sincere happiness from them for whomever I marry one day.
So - I am not asking them to stop making hilarious comments, but I do desperately try to ask them to accept this guy if we ever are able to date. Is this too much to ask from them?

No, it is not too much to ask from them. But, they may not be mature enough to do it.
Age isn't a factor for people getting along or even for true love. You can find someone your own age and be less happy than with someone of a much different age. That is normal. Only the short-sighted will see age as something to laugh about. People can be young and only have a few short years together before things fall apart ... which is typical. On the other hand, people can have a great age difference and be together for many, many years of happiness.
