Is it possible for one to become physically sick, depressed and (or) develop a nervous condition due to the person she was in a relationship with? The person was verbally abusive at times, manipulative, and constantly picked fights and put me down. Could he have been the reason my anxiety started and helped put me into a depression?

Yes, this is quite possible. More people than you think can develop depression and suffer other mental and personality disorders from abuse in general, and failed relationships too. I suggest seeking counseling. There is a strong misconception that only crazy people or psychos will go to a shrink, or people seeking attention. That isn't true at all. Sometimes we need a little help in life, and knowing to ask for it shows strength.
However, as a former sufferer of depression, anxiety, and a couple really horrible relationships, I do think medication and counseling can only get you so far. There comes a point where you have to realize you have to get over the issue and put it behind you, or you will forever dwell on it and never move on. But first I do suggest the counseling, as you should have help mourning over your hurt.
