I recently just told him that I love him. I had put a lot of thought into it and this is how I really felt about him and I needed him to know. I've never been one to say "I love you first". When I finally told him via e-mail, I did not get the reaction I was expecting. He said he understands and he's glad I told him but he also said he needs to get used to it. Used to the fact that I love him. I felt like such a fool.
We are still together and I am just letting things happen. I never try and force things. I hope he will one day return those same feelings. He's such a great guy. I just wonder am I wasting my time. BTW, he had a girlfriend he went out with for 6 years. They were engaged once before. Perhaps he still feels something for her. I don't know.
Plus the age gap between us is 9 years. Perhaps that is a factor. Some advice and opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

From what you wrote, he might have commitment problems. Had a girlfriend for 6 years, now his reaction to your loving him is that he has to get used to it? I wouldn't count on a successful long-term relationship with him.
